Carla Palmese: About the Artist... Born in Pasadena, California, Carla Palmese earned a full scholarship to Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. Chouniards was on the cutting edge of fine art applications and partially sponsored by Walt Disney. Many of the staff were the original artists that he had personally gathered to instruct and teach his fledgling animators. Upon graduating with a B.F.A., Carla consolidated her talents to designing for the giftware industry, where she met and married Ted Van Doorn and together they built Vandor Imports, highly successful in the gift ware industry nationally and internationally, based in San Francisco. Tired of life in the fast lane, Carla moved her family to Southern Oregon where she maintained a small ranch with all the pleasures of horse shows, river rafting, and raising food for the table. Her current company is a line of hand painted original art with American themes, cowboy and wildlife. Her paintings of the old west, early 20th century advertising art and rodeo posters has a strong following throughout the Rocky Mountains. Carla also holds a masters degree in costume design, She has worked with many theater groups as a costume and set designer, and has written and produced her own musical HEROES (about the Lewis and Clark Expedition) As a fine artist, Carla spends part of each year painting on location the Great West and the countryside of Scotland and England.
