Cosmonaut Penguin Attack was the brainchild of Zach Barry, Mike Motz, and Paul Naylor. During Spring, 2001, practices commenced with Zach on guitar, Paul on drums, and Mike on bass. Later that year, and after the addition of Ryan Bracamonte on vocals, shows began happening, filled with on stage antics, costumes, and violence. The band took on some new sounds later in 2002 with the addition of Will Newsome as singer/guitarist, and the chaos continued. After a demo was made at friend Matt Salerno's garage studio, activity began to dwindle, and CPA was all but forgotten. It wasn't until later in early 2003 when shows began to pop up again, as well as a second recording with Matt, and the band played on, even adding Kyle Ray on vocals. All seemed in good fun, but it was a mutual feeling by that summer between the band that it was time to call it quits and move on. But only kind of... Despite Mike's position in the Mutes, Paul and Kyle's new project Help Computer, Will's civil union to Richard Branson and Zach's hilarious addiction to 70s porn and ludes, The band is now back to the basics with its four members, playing as hard and as chaotically as ever. CPA is a humorous blend metal, punk, polka and general bad taste that simply will not die.
CPA has been banned from the Poway Community Center and the Escondido Iceoplex for onstage "bad behavior" and "religious purposes" (see song titles).
