The National Organization consists of a Board of Directors which is supported by about 70 volunteer support staff members, Regional Vice Presidents, and local Chapters. Only the Executive Director receives a salary. All others are volunteers. This is a non-profit organization, which operates for the benefit of its members.

Regional Vice Presidents, RVP,  are the link between the Chapters and the Board of Directors. For example, in Pennsylvania there are three RVP's, one for East, one for Central, and one for Western PA. Chapters are located in many states, with the majority of AWS members residing in PA. Central PA has five chapters.
