ATHENS -- Yugoslavia insists on the full respect and implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 on Serbia's Kosovo-Metohija province, including the provision on the return of some Yugoslav Army and police units to the province, Yugoslav Foreign Minister Zivadin Jovanovic said in an interview published Tuesday by the Greek daily Exusia.
Answering a question on Yugoslavia's views on the US proposal on lifting some of the anti-Yugoslav sanctions provided free elections are organized, Jovanovic said this depended above all on the Yugoslav Constitution and laws.
The three-month NATO aggression on Yugoslavia last spring did not produce the results expected by the aggressors, and Yugoslavia's answer to international pressure is its commitment to reconstruction of infrastructure facilities, Jovanovic said.
The goal of continuous pressures on Yugoslavia remains the same as at the time of the NATO aggression - to encourage separatist aspirations, Jovanovic said.
This goal was systematically fostered for years in Kosovo-Metohija, and now in Montenegro too, Jovanovic said, and noted that, for instance, the introduction of the German mark as parallel currency in a part of Yugoslavia was an illegal and unconstitutional act.
Commenting Greek investments in Yugoslavia and especially Kosovo-Metohija, Jovanovic said that Yugoslavia wanted that process to continue and that conditions for this form of cooperation were good.
Yugoslavia wants investments from Greece more than from some other countries, and is ready to provide full guarantees for the protection of Greek investments and firms, Jovanovic said.
Yugoslavia has not and will not recognize any decision of the UN civilian mission UNMIK which usurpate economic wealth in Kosovo-Metohija, including the usurpation of Greek investments in the province, Jovanovic said, promising that Yugoslavia will endeavor to protect Greek investments in the Trepca mine, the Feronikl industry and the telecommunications system in Kosovo-Metohija.
