BELGRADE, Oct 26 (AFP) - Three ethnic Albanians, arrested in May on terrorism charges, possession of weapons and illegal trade, were freed by a Belgrade court Tuesday, while another was imprisoned on arms and forgery charges, the Beta news agency reported.
The four were arrested during the March-June NATO bombing campaign on Yugoslavia, under charges of "preparing terrorist actions in Kosovo in 1995-1998, jeopardising security and illegal medecine trade."
Two of the four defendants, brothers Bekim and Safet Blakaj, were accused of "buying and organising weapon transfers for terrorist actions" in Kosovo, and of "being members of an illegal organisation of Albanian students at Belgrade University."
Judge Zoran Simic rejected the terrorism charges at the trial held in Belgrade Tuesday, but charged three defendants with five months and 13 days' imprisonment for "illegal medecine trade," Beta reported.
The three were released from prison on Tuesday, their lawyers said, since they had spent the same time in detention awaiting the trial.
But Bekim Blakaj was sentenced to a one-year prison term for "possessing ammunition and forgering personal documents."
