STOCKHOLM - "Yugoslavia has won the war by putting up a fight and resisting NATO air strikes," Swedish air force commander Gen. Jan Jansson said.
After an extensive and careful analysis of the course and development of the aggression of the North Atlantic pact on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the Swedish general assessed that the NATO bombing had been quite ineffective.
Jansson said that at the beginning of the aggression it became clear that "there would not be a land invasion of Kosovo-Metohija and the rest of Serbia, which has helped to a great degree the Yugoslav army to leave border positions and hide the troops and arms."
The general, in a statement for Swedish radio, confirmed that the Swedish defense has drawn lessons from the analysis of NATO attacks on Yugoslavia.
"The position of the Yugoslav army and its situation can be directly compared with the Swedish situation," Gen. Jansson said.
