BELGRADE (Reuters) - Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, in a rare public appearance, Tuesday reopened an oil refinery in the northern town of Pancevo damaged in NATO's 11-week bombing campaign, state Tanjug news agency reported.
This was the third time since the end of the bombing in June that Milosevic had attended such a ceremony.
On June 14, Milosevic marked the start of the reconstruction of a strategic bridge linking Serbia to its northern Vojvodina province, one of 59 bridges damaged or destroyed by NATO.
Also in June, he attended the launch of rebuilding of an apartment block in Serbia's southeastern town of Aleksinac, destroyed by a NATO stray missile.
The visits were part of a political campaign to rebuild Serbia after the devastating Alliance air war over Belgade's repression of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo province.
The war left Serbia with damage estimated at $60 billion. The West has said it will give no reconstruction aid as long as Milosevic stays in power.
