BELGRADE, Yugoslavia -- Millions of counterfeit German marks were discovered in Serbia Monday, and four people were arrested on suspicion of printing the notes, police reported.
They said 15,400 notes of 100 and 500 German mark bills were discovered at a home in the northern Serbian town of Subotica. Four suspects have been charged with forgery.
The mark has been serving as a parallel currency in Serb-led Yugoslavia, together with the weak Yugoslav dinar, which has steadily been losing value.
