PEKING -- Renmin Ribao President and Pan-Chinese Reporters' Association President Shao Huaze and Yugoslav Ambassador to China Slobodan Unkovic agreed in Peking on Thursday that both countries are interested in constantly strengthening cooperation and friendship.

They underscored the importance of cooperation between Chinese and Yugoslav reporters, which they said contributes to the better mutual knowledge of the two peoples and strengthening of overall cooperation.

In a lengthy talk, Unkovic informed Shao about the current situation in Yugoslavia and the national reconstruction following the recent NATO air strikes on Yugoslavia.

Shao, the president of the most influential Chinese daily, is also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Unkovic spoke about the southern Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija, where Serbs and other non-Albanians are exposed to persecution from ethnic Albanian terrorists. He stressed the importance of the due implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244.

Shao said Chinese reporters, of whom 550,000 are members of the Pan-Chinese Reporters' Association, would continue to report objectively about Yugoslavia. He voiced full support to further cooperation between reporters of the two countries.
