CAMP BONDSTEEL, Yugoslavia, Sept 15 (AFP) - The Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) says it has surrendered a total of some 10,000 of its weapons in compliance with its undertaking to demilitarize, US Colonel Douglas Nash said here Wednesday.
The KLA signed the undertaking on demilitarization June 21, calling on its members to disarm in three stages, with the weapons gradually coming under control of the NATO-led peacekeeping force known as KFOR.
The deadline for full demilitarization is September 19.
The announcement came as the international peacekeeping force in Kosovo warned the KLA on Wednesday it would not tolerate any challenge to its mandate as the sole armed force in the Yugoslav province.
The arms surrender announcement also came as the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Kosovo launched a publicity campaign to persuade KLA members to join a new humanitarian-based Kosovo Corps.
