BELGRADE, Yugoslavia, Aug. 29 (UPI) Father Sava of Decani Monastery, the spokesman for the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo, said the NATO-led peacekeeping force, KFOR, and the U.N. civilian mission were facing defeat because they had failed to secure a multi-ethnic Kosovo.
He said in an interview with the church-run Svetogora Radio today that in the past two months hundreds of Serbs had been killed and abducted, thousands of houses torched and more than 180,000 people expelled from Kosovo.
"No state institution is still in existence," Father Sava said. "There are no health care and education systems here."
He said that Kosovo and Metohija had been completely cut off from the legal and constitutional order of Yugoslavia and that room for the Serbs in Kosovo was shrinking.
