Local ethnic Albanians in the Cernica village, Gnjilane municipality, Kosovo-Metohija, attempted Tuesday afternoon to search the homes of their Serb neighbors for weapons. After the Serbs refused, the ethnic Albanians brought US KFOR peacekeepers to help them.
The US KFOR troops and ethnic Albanian villagers then attempted to break into the Serb homes, but Serb women took up pitchforks to defend themselves, amateur radio operators from Vranje, southern Serbia, reported.
KFOR called in reinforcements, led by a black man who had a few days ago beaten a 16-year-old boy.
He attacked the women, pulling them by the hair in an attempt to line them up. Sasa Simionovic, 15, tried to defend the women, and KFOR troops moved to arrest him.
Scared and angry, the women rushed to defend the boy, who managed to escape.
One woman was injured in the scuffle and was taken to hospital in Vranje.
The Serbs in Cernica are embittered by the behaviour of the US KFOR troops.
