Macedonian Defense Minister Nikola Kljusev said that "those who open fire on soldiers, border guards of this state, will be liquidated, regardless of what organizations or groups they belong to."
In an interview on the occasion of August 18, Army Day of the Republic of Macedonia, to the Skopje daily New Macedonia, Kljusev said that "on the border of Albania law and order must be respected" and it will not be allowed "that a part of the Macedonian border becomes a promenade for illegal strollers, irrespective of their intentions."
The Macedonian minister said that neither the part of the border with Yugoslavia was secure since the time that KFOR troops arrived in Kosovo and Metohija. Since then, he said, Albanians are swarming in from Kosovo and Metohija into Macedonia by illegal routes, and the border guards were forced to open fire several times.
In the clashes, Kljusev said, Macedonian border guards killed one ethnic Albanian, and wounded several.
