The Yugoslav ministry of telecommunications has determined after field investigation and testing that broadcasts by Yugoslav radio and TV stations are being jammed from some neighbouring states and from ships or aircraft, which is contrary to the regulations of the International Telecommunications Union and its Convention, Yugoslav Minister of Telecommunications Ivan Markovic said in a statement Saturday.
The Articles 15 and 23 of the Union's regulations on radio and telecommunications ban the jamming, the statement says.
The ITU is a specialised UN agency for telecommunications.
Jamming has been verified of the Radio Belgrade Program 1, and of the Serbian TV First, Second and third channels from the territories of Hungary and Croatia, the statement says.
Yugoslavia abides by all provisions of the IUT Constitution and Convention and by all its regulations, the statement says.
Since the jamming of broadcasts constitutes a violation of the sovereign right of countries to regulate their telecommunications systems, the Yugoslav ministry of telecommunications has therefore addressed to the IUT and the relevant administrations of the countries from which the jamming is being determined a demand that they respect international order and set standards, the statement says.
The ministry is taking measures in line with its powers and in line with the Constitution to preserve national sovereignty in this sector, the statement says.
