BELGRADE -- The Serbian journalists' association (UNS) on Monday strongly condemned the international KFor force in Kosovo-Metohija for demanding passports from TANJUG's correspondents before issuing them "permits for free movement" in the province.
By making the demand, KFor grossly exceeded its authority in that U.N.-administered province of the Yugoslav republic of Serbia, the UNS said.
Despite all threats, danger and difficulties, all Serbian journalists may still report from Kosovo-Metohija with proper accreditation and their journalist's pass, the UNS said.
Kosovo-Metohija is still their country, and they should not require passports in order to get there, it stressed.
The UNS demands that the U.N. civilian mission to Kosovo-Metohija (UNMIK) and KFor unconditionally allow the correspondents to do their job without interference.
KFor should demand passports from those who enter Yugoslav territory unhindered from Albania and Macedonia, the UNS said.
It added it would continue to maintain contacts with the Provisional Executive Council of Kosovo-Metohija and the Yugoslav Committee for Cooperation with UNMIK in Pristina in order that all interested Serbian journalists should normally do their job there.
