PRISTINA - KFOR representatives in Pristina refused Sunday to issue to a Tanjug news agency journalist an official identity card for work and movement in Kosovo and Metohija, explaining that a passport was needed for obtaining the document.

So far passports were not requested from any team of the Yugoslav news agency, whose reporters, despite difficulties and dangers, never stopped reporting from the Serbian province even at the time of the fiercest NATO bombing.

Tanjug's reporter who arrived in Kosovo-Meothija Sunday, just as all his colleagues until now, possessed an accrediation and a valid journalist identity card.

The only explanation given by the KFOR officer was that those documents were not trustworthy and he cited the "official" document of the international peacekeeping forces in Kosovo- Metohija requiring a passport to be shown. He said the document was adopted two weeks ago.

Domestic news organizations or appropriate Yugoslav bodies have not been informed about this arbitrary interpretation of Security Council Resolution 1244.

The new KFOR regulation is contrary to Security Council reoslution 1244 and the militarty-technical agreement, which guarantee the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yugoslavia.

KFOR, by that document, treats Yugoslav journalists as foreigners in their own country while, on the other side, nationals of neighbouring Macedonia and Albanian can enter unimpeded the territory of Kosovo-Metohija without any documents.

A large number of correspondents from Pristina have been able to see for themselves and to film with cameras that there is no customs or passport control of foreign nationals when entering Kosovo and Metohija.
