Ode To Abraham Lincoln
and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
by Leslie LaVerne Bridges-Kemp
2002

His yoke is easy and his burden is light.
Reverencing the dawn we whisper in delight
to the darkie demons despoiling grace in the night
of slaverys reign overcome in the dawn of might.

Overwhelmingly appreciative of the dispensation of grace
which has delivered me on chariots of emerald embrace
into a Renaissance of memosa-orange to replace
the midnight hues of ebony denigration in innocences face.

Civil War and Civil Rights Movement transform and transport
your charge to the crest of a tidal wave of deifying momentum,
as daintily the angels signal in silence the Captains report
of longitude serenity and latitude eternity
sailing towards ad infinitum.
