I heard a shot early opening morning, and I thought it came from the other side of the hill that I was hunting from, and I was right. After my hunt was over I jumped on my 4-wheeler and headed back to the farm for some breakfast. There sat my brother with a smirk on his face. I asked him if he got one, and he said yes, I asked him if it was nice and he said it was ok, that I would have to wait and see. So we jumped on the Polaris and we were off. We got to the spot and he pointed it out and instantly I knew I should have been in that stand. After some thought, he decided this one's going on the wall.

After scouting for a few days I found a new spot to try. I put a portable stand about 15 feet up a nice straight tree on a wooded side hill. Opening morning came around and I rode my 4 wheeler within about 50 yards of my new stand. It started out pretty quiet around me until around 7:00 when a coyote came trotting by at about 50 yards, I contemplated shooting it several times, but finally decided it was best to let it pass, I didn't want to scare any bucks away, after all that's what I was after. About 30 minutes later the same coyote was coming back my way. At this point I had it out for him, he stopped just for a second, and I took my shot. Unfortunately I had to make a second shot with my model 700 Remington 30-06 to put him down for good. At this point I was upset that I might have screwed up the rest of the hunt. After awhile I saw a group of five deer come by at about 100 yard in heavy woods, I scoped them all and they were all doe, so I didn't shoot even though I had a bonus and a hunters choice. A little later on I heard some close shots then eight more deer from the same direction, after scattering at about 250 yards only one came my way through some heavy brush. I scoped it and I saw antlers, so I was interested. As he came out of the brush I raised my gun and fired at the running buck, one more shot and he was down. Turns out this buck had a huge gaping hole in his neck. I jumped on the Polaris, loaded up my buck and coyote and headed out.

Jeff shot this unicorn in Black River Falls with a nice Savage 338 Magnum. Can you say overkill!

Brian shot this one in Iowa County with a Remmington 30-06 pump action rifle. Nice tombstone by the way
