Bow hunting 98

  1. Ron's Devil Buck

Ron's Devil Buck

A cool morning began with my ascent up the tree stand. After passing up on several other small bucks this season, I didn't want to go home empty handed again. About 8:00 I spotted what I first thought was a spike heading my way from a CRP field above me, as it came close it became clear to me that this was not your ordinary spike buck. After thinking about it for about 30 seconds I decided that if he continued to come my way that he would be mine. He kept coming, and slowly I drew my bow back and put my 10 yard pin on his chest, at this point he was less than 8 yards away almost directly under my tree stand. I shot and instantly noticed my shot was high, he bolted around the apple trees and ran straight into the nearby timber. After a few seconds all noise was gone and he had vanished from my view. I waited about 20 minutes then got down out of my stand and went to the truck. Soon my fellow hunters Jeff and Mark showed up and we began the search. After picking up where I had last seen him we found a heavy blood trail, that went right into a deep ravine. At the bottom of the ravine there laid the devil buck. After a exerting recovery he was in the back of my truck.
