| Brielle stood off to the side of the locker room door after practice. She could see through the tunnel toward the ice, where Colby and Siena stood talking at the edge of the boards, but she was almost certain that they couldn't see her. Most of the team was in the dressing room changing, but a few guys stayed on the ice to take some shots at Valley, who had been informed of his impending start for the next game and wanted some extra practice. She didn't know why, but the uneasy feeling that had made its way into the pit of her stomach at the beginning of practice refused to go away. She wasn't happy seeing Colby flirt shamelessly with Siena, but she couldnt figure out why, and there was nothing she could do about it. Not that I have any feelings for him, she told herself, not anymore. It's his performance on the ice that I'm concerned about. Yeah. On the ice. Hell, when he was dating me, his performance slacked off. And he doesn't need to do that, not now, not right when he's getting his game back. And Siena wouldn't say no if he asked, I'm sure. And that's what worries me the most. Before long, she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. She spun around to come face to chest with Shane. She looked up and gulped. "God Shane, you scared the hell out of me. Sorry Shane muttered, shrugging and sticking his hands into the pockets of his jeans. Besides Toby, he was one of the fastest to change into street clothes after practice. Its okay. So what's up?" she asked, moving away from the tunnel and crossing her arms over her chest. "Not much, I just wanted to see if you and Eric were doing anything for dinner, he told me to ask you if you had any plans." "Oh, Brielle said, letting a breath out that she didn't realize she was holding in. Umm... No, I didn't have any plans, what did you have in mind?" "I was thinking The Caf, if that's alright with you," Shane replied, leaning up against the wall. "Calista wanted to go there, and I asked Army if he wanted to come, but he said he was gonna ask Siena if she wanted to go somewhere alone, so I figured I'd ask you and Eric." Shane noticed Brielle wince slightly when he mentioned Siena's name and he decided to call her on it. "So how do you know Siena?" Brielle hesitated with her answer. "We were friends when I first moved to Anaheim, she played on a team I joined when I moved there. We've been friends since I was about seventeen." Shane nodded. "Oh. So I'm guessing you're alright with her dating Army if he asks, then, since you're such good friends and all." Brielle made a face. "I guess you're not..." She looked around, and seeing no one standing around, she pulled Shane into the empty weight room. "Siena and I are really good friends, yes... She's one of my best friends. And I wanna see her happy. But no, I will not be happy with her dating Colby." "Why?" Shane asked. "I thought you two were over and done with... And Eric-" "I love Eric, Brielle said quickly, cutting Shane off. He means more to me than anything, and I am not gonna lose him, not like I did when I was a kid. I promise you Shane, I'm more concerned with Colby's performance on the ice then who he's sleeping with; if you think I'm jealous, you're dead wrong. He played like shit when we were dating, we all knew it, and I honestly think the only reason that Glenn didn't bench him was because he knew I would've thrown a fit and he didn't want to deal with an angry assistant, much less a female angry assistant. I'm damn near impossible to work with when I get angry, and I know it. I knew he was playing horribly, but I refused to see it because he was my boyfriend. I don't want him to play that badly again. He's too important to the team now that Eric is in Pittsburgh." "But he's doing so well now..." Shane said halfheartedly. He knew exactly where Brielle was going with her argument. "He is, I agree with you. But if he starts dating Siena, he's gonna get distracted just like he did when he was dating me," Brielle insisted. The tone of her voice left no room for any argument from Shane. "And that can't happen this late in the season. Not with the playoffs on the line. We're in the last spot for the lightning round as it is thanks to Hershey and Binghamton both winning their games last night, we can't afford to have one of the highest drafted guys on the team being distracted by anything." She paused for a moment. "And if he gets distracted, I won't have any choice but to bench him and call someone up from Wheeling. And if that happens, Siena will have a fit, just like I would've, and I honestly don't feel like dealing with her throwing a fit because I benched her boyfriend." Shane nodded. "You make a good point." "I know I do," Brielle said. She sighed, purely out of frustration. "Let's just go for dinner, I really don't feel like being a coach anymore, not today." ~*~*~ Brielle, Eric, Shane and Calista walked into the small restaurant and looked around for an open table. Murley was sitting at the bar next to Lisa, watching a Red Wings game with Kraft and Sivek. Lisa noticed the door opening out of the corner of her eye, and walked over to Brielle with a smile on her face, leaving the boys to watch the game. Hey Ellie, she said, walking over to her group. Hey Lise, what brings you here? Brielle asked with a smile. Matt never told me you were coming in so soon. Strictly a weekend trip, Lisa explained. Im off every other weekend, and I had nothing better to do I guess I couldve gone to a couple Rangers games cause theyre playing Tampa Bay, but theyre not very fun. The Garden scares the hell out of me. Brielle laughed. Especially when you cheer for the other team, right? Lisa laughed and nodded. The same goes for Philly with me. Lisa made a face. Yeah, Philly scares me too, more than The Garden at times. Those fans there are just Complete idiots? Eric offered. Yeah, pretty much, Lisa said, nodding. And what are you doing here, Meloche? I thought you were in Pittsburgh. She paused. Or are you sucking so bad they sent you back already? she asked with a grin. Long weekend, Eric replied, rolling his eyes. And no, I dont suck, not nearly as much as your boyfriend does, Eric said loudly, trying to pull Matts attention away from the game. He sucks so much more than I do, thats why Im there and hes not, Eric said sarcastically, grinning. Bullshit, Murley scoffed, rolling his eyes and spinning around on his bar stool to face everyone. He knew Eric was just playing around. I dont get called up because they need me here. It almost seems like a demotion to go to Pittsburgh, theyve been out of the playoffs since the first puck dropped back in October, Matt said with a laugh. You have a point. Id hate to be Sebastien sometimes, Eric said, referring to their goaltender, Sebastien Caron. Coach has me playing defense sometimes, and Im sure as hell not a defensemen, I dont know where the hell he gets his ideas from. Last time I got stuck on penalty kill, he let one in basically because we had no defense The poor kid started beating the hell out of a locker after that game, I felt awful for him. He was actually asking to be sent back down here, if you can believe it. Id believe it, Shane said. He looked at Brielle. But thats mostly because we have such an amazing coach down here, he said with a grin. Kissass, Brielle muttered, rolling her eyes. That stuff doesnt work on me, you should know that by now. Listing my qualities on your fingers will not get you anywhere with me, Endo. Worth a shot, Shane shrugged. Yeah, it was. And I must admit, it was still nice to hear, Brielle said, smiling. She turned to Eric while everyone started to laugh. I am an amazing coach, arent I? Yes, dear, he nodded. Im starving, lets find a table, he said, putting a hand on the small of Brielles back. Sit at the bar with us, Lisa said, motioning toward where the guys were sitting. Theres a couple more stools. And besides, its almost impossible to speak to these guys when theres a game on. I need some female company. Okay, Eric said, leading Brielle to the bar, followed by Shane and Calista. |
