Professional Experience
Volunteer Aide in Sign Language class: October 1999-December 2001
- T.A. for 5, 12-week sessions of classes for kids ages 6-14
- Responsible for co-teaching lessons and leading group activities
- Taught classes alone when teacher was unable to attend
Co-teacher of Adult Education Sign Language Class: September 2000- December 2002
- Co-taught Sign Language for three semesters to adults
- Planned and executed lessons that included technological aides and Deaf presenters
- Used a "Sim-Com" approach, meaning the students and I spoke and signed at all times
- Students included high school students, future interpreters and hard-of-hearing adults
Academic Interpreter: September 2004- May 2005
- Substituted on an on-call basis for 5 months at an elementary school and high school
- On-staff substitute interpreter for 4 months for grades kindergarten through eighth grade
- Responsibilities included interpreting in classes ranging from math to chorus, as well as aiding
Deaf Education teachers as needed.
In addition to my professional career as an interpreter, I've also worked in various settings,
ranging from dance classes to volleyball games. I've also been a TA in other classes for young
children.
