The Highlander Movie Swords

Connor Macleod
��� Connor Macleod no doubt used many swords in his lifetime. The following are the swords featured in the movie Highlander.
��� This is the sword we find Connor using in his flashbacks. It is the sword of his Clan. The Clan Macleod. Macleod used this weapon poorly in his first confrontation with the Kurgan. Following his death and rebirth, the weapon was given to Macleod by his good friend Angus. Angus saved Connor from a burning by his fellow clansman. This weapon would also become the gravemarker for his wife Heather who died of old age in Scotland. How fitting that he would leave this sword with Heather.

Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez
��� The sword was made for him by Masamune. He was the father of his japanese wife Shikiku. The weapon is a remarkable piece of work. The metal in the blade was folded over 200 times. This created millions of layers of folded metal giving the blade amazing flexability. The tsuka, or handle, is 100% hand carved ivory. The tsuba and habaki are gold. The scarlet saya, or scabbard is likely ags wood. However, even this amazing sword paired with Ramirez' skill as a swordsman was not able to defeat the Kurgan. The Kurgan
��� The first time we see the Kurgans sword is in Scotland in 1536. It can be assumed that he had it before then. It is a standard broadsword, with a blood grove running its length. This also keeps the weapon light. There is a button located on the hilt which can be depressed the unfolds two switchblade type sword catchers offset to the blade. The sword is also collapsable. It can be safely carried around in a suitcase. Although this weapon is large and unweildy it is still quite deadly in the hands of the Kurgan. In real life this sword would have either been cut in half by Macleods Masamune, or completely mangled the Masamune Katana. Sunda Kastagir
��� Kastagirs sword is a simple chinese broadsword. Also known as a Darn Dong. It is hard to tell from the movie if it may in fact be a shamshir, or shimitar.
��� We only see Kastagirs sword once in the movie Highlander. He used it in his one and only battle with Kurgan. Swords of this type have been used in China for hundreds of years. It was common practice to go into battle weilding 2 of these weapons with long streamers of silk dangling from the pommel. This confused the enemy and made him more vulnerable. Kastagir allowed Kurgan to dominate the fight and that is why he lost. He did way too much blocking and not enough counter attacking. It leads one to wonder how he made it to be one of the 3 last living immortals. He must have hid under a rock.
Iman Fasil

��� Fasil's Sword is a Toledo Salamanca Broadsword. It is essentially a Swept Hilt Rapier with gold accents. The sword is obviously old, probably mid-Renaissance. This type of sword was used primarily for thrusting. It would not have carried and edge sharp enough to remove the head of an immortal. However, the sword is stated in the movie to be worth "about a million bucks". It was definately made in Spain, either Toledo Spain - world renouned for its sword craft, or Salamanca, equally well known. In a real life battle between the Masamune and this Rapier the Masamune would have chopped the rapier in half. Fasil would have had to get the drop on Macleod and stab him in the back. Engaging blades would be a mistake, considering the Masamunes various attributes.

Kane
��� You can buy this sword under the name of the dark magic sword. It is a common katana with a 26 inch blade. The handle is abs plastic and will break off at the end of the tang. Do not buy this sword. It is useless. The weapon used in the film is beautiful however. It is perfectly befitting of Kane's character. General Katana
��� Katana's sword seems like an ordinary bastard broadsword, but look again. I know that my picture sucks, but in the movie you will see that Katanas broadsword has a partially retractable blade. There is a ricasso which runs a quarter of its length. A button releases the remainder of the blade from within the ricasso. The blade has several blood groves running over half its length. I have all of the Highlander swords, and there is no one that I want more than this one. If you know where I can find one email me!!!!
