ok, so without the official results...here are pix. We had 2 races: first were our spec class Sportsman/HotRods. and there were a lot more '27 Model-T hot rods this time out!. Second race was the first time for 36d powered cars. Mostly they were pulled out of the pit box and not race prepared. My car was a REHco/Amercian Line (?) Dynamic kit car using a Porsche Carrera 6 body, but was not competitive against Dan's Cheetah.
So, after much prodding from Peter, i switched bodies over to my own Dubro factory blue painted Cheetah body. I was able to add some detailing to the body, widen the front and rear wheel/tire width, and changed the fronts over to Cox Crager styled mags. I reinforced the chassis with brass rods, worked on the guide depth, and now have a decent racer. So my car was ready to race, and i did win this race. ![]() ![]() the starting line of race #1....hey, are those exhaust pipes hanging out of the back of the Rat Fink's car legal??? ![]() Rob's line up of vintage cars ![]() ![]() racers ready for action!! just check out the intensity in Pete's eyes.... ![]() Armand's latest addition to this racing stable: a black with flames '27 Model-T....look closely at the 2 girls in the windshield!!! ![]() ![]() line up at the end of the first race ![]() ![]() getting lined up for the second race....a variety of great looking cars! ![]() the guy to beat in the Sportsman class....marshalling a busy corner ![]() 2 Thingies: the Garvic Firebird 500s at the end of a closely raced heat. And who said these cars did not perform well? We witnessed some very fast and close racing and even lots of wheelies (!!!) on the straights too! Guess i will have to bring back my Garvic Firebird for a special Thingies race- bonus points if you cross the finish line doing a wheelie!!! ![]() racers ready for the next 36d heat ![]() comic relief...who's idea was it to bury my Cheetah under the pile?? Lots of crashes as we all needed to get used to actually racing these old machines, but no reported damage! ![]() ![]() ![]() end of the race line up. Blue cheetah: Glenn, VW Beetle: Peter, Garvic Firebirds: one was Billy's, one was Jimmys, and the Bat Car Firebird was Dom's, green Strombecker Lotus: Carl, red Strombecker Cheetah: Mikey (these 2 strombeckers are E.J.'s Hobbies kits), and the #8 Cheetah: Rob. ![]() all of the happy racers! what a handsome buch of big boys racing their toy cars.....only Armand is missing as he left before the second race started, so we had 9 racers total, in the middle of the summer! Great turnout for this time of the year. When i get the official race report, i will add the details. Or, whoever got the report can add it to this thread. Hope you enjoy!
