She had earned her credentials and this would be her first surgery. Six years in training to be a neurosurgeon, and now she was operating on her first patient. She was somewhat nervous as she inserted the probe.
Just as she had read in her neuropathology book last night, the patient's left arm rose off the table. She was more relaxed now as she withdrew the probe and reinserted it in yet another portion of the brain. Sure enough, the patient's right leg rose off the table. A wicked smile formed beneath her surgical mask as she probed in yet another spot. Yep, it was working. The patient's response was just as expected. Feeling almost Godlike, she moved the probe back a millimeter, then forward to touch again, then back and then touch again. Up, down, up, down went the man's appendage. Wow, this was fun. "Ahem, doctor.......... could you do that a little faster?" It was the patient. He was still awake. "Oh my God" she stammered. "I had no idea you were awake. Please accept my apology for playing with your big toe. I lost my head for a moment."
