VALENTINE'S DAY

There is an old English saying,"Penny wise and pound foolish." I am sure they are referring to the English pound. But here in the good ol U.S.A, it could mean something quite different for our family. But then we would have to say penny and pound foolish.

We have not been sensible with economics. And for sure we haven't been sensible with pounds, not many pennies and for sure lots of pounds. The mirror shows those pounds Ha!

But what we are, is rich in love. While attending a dance with friends, none of us had dates that night, I met a freckled faced redhead young man. I was eighteen and he was twenty. An instant rapport sprang up between us. For three months, we saw each other daily. And when we weren't together, we were talking on the telephone. At the end of that three months we were married.

"Too soon and too young to be married, it won't last," was the frequent refrain we heard from family and friends.

Almost forty years later, after many of life's trials with its ups and downs, we have proven all the naysayers to be wrong.

Together we produced three children who have blessed us with five beautiful grandchildren. This is our wealth, and our happiness.

This valentine day I still feel delightfully fortunate to have met that redheaded freckled boy many years ago.
