April is autumn for me, and I have written another Aussie autumn poem - as a follow-up to "The Odes Of March", that Lary and I did to show the differences between March in Canada and March in Australia.

These are the autumn orchids that are "pinstriped" in white and green. They grow wild in our eucalypt woodlands.

Go look in the woodlands and creeklines
and on roadsides from April till May
for the delicate greenhood orchids
that are scattered along the way.
They grow in the stock routes on highways,
in the shelter of fine native grass,
and sheltered by pines in our woodlands
deep in places where no footsteps pass.
These orchids of April so dainty
in their dresses pinstriped white and green,
will nod all their sweet heads from shyness
if you should come onto the scene.

Tread softly, go slowly to find them,
pale greenhoods, are natures true gem!
