Susan was a pretty girl. She was also very, very spoiled. The new boy on the block was named Jeff. She knew this because she had asked several of her girlfriends. Unfortunately, knowing his name hadn't helped at all in getting to know him. No matter how many times she had walked back and forth past Jeff's house, there had been no opportunity to make eye contact.
They even went to the same school. It was true he went to morning classes and she to the afternoon classes, but they passed one another in the parking lot, so why hadn't he paid her any attention. Being ignored was not only something new to Susan, it was something that was totally unacceptable. Days turned into weeks and the situation failed to improve. If anything, things got worse. Jeff was now playing with friends of her's, but was STILL ignoring her. It was the third week after he moved in when Jeff finally came to his senses and came calling one evening. Susan had begun to wonder if maybe Jeff thought of her as too young for him. Mrs. White answered the door and walked Jeff into the family room. Susan felt torn when her folks made such a fuss over Jeff. On the one hand, she was excited that he had come to visit and pleased they liked him, but on the other hand, she felt a little jealous that they were making such a fuss. Normally, evenings were her special time. A time when the family experienced a closeness not often seen in families these days. "You two take some time and get aquainted" Mrs. White said as she shooed the two youngsters out onto the patio. "Papa and I will be watching TV" she said as she closed the patio door behind her. There was an uncomfortable period of time during which they sat quietly and each waited for the other to take the lead. Susan was the first to stand. Getting to her feet, she walked to the grass surrounding the patio. Looking back over her shoulder to make sure Jeff was following her, she moved back into the shadows near the fence. This was a game she had some experience with. Flirting wasn't exactly her middle name, but neither was she a stranger to the word. When she turned, he kissed her. She kissed him back, and suddenly there was a flurry of kisses. It was what happened next that began to frighten Susan. She had decided to play coy and had backed away from him. She had managed but a few steps when he suddenly threw himself at her and knocked her off her feet. OMG, was he crazy? She rose quickly to her feet and was still backing away when he again launched himself at her and, this time, he brought her to the ground with himself on top of her. Truly frightened now, she looked back toward the patio door and saw her folks closing the drapes. "Noooooooooo" was all she had time to think before Jeff began to chew at her neck. Marge White nudged her husband with her elbow. "See how nice they play together?" she said happily. "I don't know about that" he answered her. "Looks like pretty rough play to me." "Don't be silly" his wife exclaimed. "He's not going to hurt her. Besides, she's way too spoiled. It's high time she learned she isn't some sort of princess." This time it was Susan who first crouched, then hurled herself at her new friend. This time, it was Susan who ended up on top. "Stop being a worrywart, dear" Marge told her still concerned husband.. The dogs are fine. Now let's see what's on TV."
