Morgans last raid: recruits from Greenbrier County, and SW Virginia for last raid into kentucky. Many desert currrent companies to join him. 

June 11 1864 is battle of Cythiana, John Hunt Morgan Last Raid, "Morgans Bummers"

Henry moves family to Indiana, opposite Emmicks Landing

Jacob was 14..........(Mar 17 1849 + 14 > March 17, 1863. and before March 17, 1864, not 15 years old)

Henry changes last name to "Emmick"

Henry was drafted into Union Army and was driving wagons (no soldier record)

Dad was left at home...Henry didnt want him to come ?  (Emmicks Landing, Indiana side , CSA raids in Ky)

So he slipped away (did go right away?)

help drivin wagon with Henry (all over Kentucky-Tennesse...during Magruder, Morgan, Forrest raids?)

Jacob got measles   (Measle outbreak, Louisville, Dec 1864)

Henry left him at abandon tobacco warehouse hospital (Evansville Hospital?)

week later got small pox (small pox outbreak, Louisville, Jan. 1865...had been going a year)

corpses on frozen ground (must be winter 1865 & left just before 15 birthday, summer 1864 drivin wagons) (numerous war hospitals in area. Jan 1865 record low temps)

recovered, slept at river wharf (must be on river) (Ohio River)

cotton bales (warm summer climate to grow)   (late fall ?)

stowed away on river barge (barge?, going down stream)

not found till well under way (could be awhile, <50 miles ?)

put ashore at first chance (landing)

not far from home and could just walk the distance (<20 miles to Emmicks Landing?)

Gettysburg to Knowville to Hunt- 1863-1864

Timeframe ? Jacob small pox winter could be 1865 if left summer - fall 1863, (enough time to move, etc?) and  before Mar 1864 (birthdates)  Summer 1864 driving wagons.

June 11 1864 Battle of Cythiana, Morgan gets whippped, his men disperse. Some to Forrest in the west. Some men become "bummers" roving Kentucky. (rob/pillage) .

Numerous Hospitals from Evansville to Louisville in 1864-1865. (RR & rivers supporting General Sherman)

CSA startegy to free Kentucky by battle at Chattenooga, Morgan from east, and Forrest from west.  Quantrell also rides into area around Emmicks Landing.  Sabotage at Louisville (Sultana). Morgans defeat and CSA lost at Chattenooga ended startegy.  "Morgans Bummers"   Quantrell raids with Shepherd family.
