Bonanza book: One of television's long-running westerns, Bonanza, was the arche-type of the "property" western that dominated the genre during the 60s. Set in Virginia City, Nevada, it told the story of the Cartwrights, owners of a nearly 600,000 acre ranch - The Ponderosa (named after the ponderosa pines growing there). Starring Lorne Greene as Ben Cartwright a three time widower; Pernell Roberts as eldest son Adam; big Dan Blocker as son Hoss and Michael Landon as the youngest son, Little Joe. This book tells the story about the Cartwrights and their struggle for water. The book is written by Noel Loomis. |

5 Bonanza stories: "Badge Without Honor" "The Last Viking" "The Blood Line" "Silent Thunder" Bonanza is the story of the Cartwright family, prosperous ranchers living in the vicinity of Virginia City, Nevada druing the Civil War years shortly after the discovery of the Comstock Silver Lode. Widower Ben Cartwright was the head of this family, and owner of the Ponderosa Ranch. He lived with his three sons, each of whom had a different mother. Adam, the eldest, was serious and introspective, and the most likely successor to his father. Hoss was the middle son and a mountain of a man. He was gentle and at times naive. The youngest son, Little Joe was the most impulsive and romantic of the Cartwright brothers. The program was not a traditional Western in the fact that the plot revolved around the relationships of the characters as opposed to violence. Many of the episodes explored serious dramatic themes.
