Ostara Workshop

Ostara, which is also known as the Vernal Equinox, is the of Spring, which is the season of rebirth and the resurrection of the God. Ostara is considered to be a fertility festival and a fire festival. This is a time for renewal and regeneration. This is still a time to do Spring Cleaning not only in the home, but also psychically and physically for yourself.

Ostara also corresponds with Easter, which is named after the Anglo-Saxon Goddess Eostre. Eostre is a Goddess in Maiden form. She is the Goddess of Spring and eggs and rabbits/hares are sacred to Her. In many Pagan myths, the Goddess retreats into the Underworld with all the vegetation during Winter and returns again at Ostara. Another myth is the one of the Easter Bunny. It is said that the Bunny brought Eostre a special egg, and this egg was the most beautiful that she had ever laid eyes on. Once she saw this, she told the Bunny to give his eggs to all the children in the world so that they may have something this beautiful as well. It is said that this is how the Easter Bunny came about. Also, it is still traditional to have eggs to dye and eggs to hunt. You may want to have dyed eggs especially for yourself to place on your altar. These eggs can be either wooden, hard boiled, or with the yokes blown out of them. Here are some egg color correspondences:

Coloring Eggs with Natural Dyes

taken from Wicca: A Year and a Day by Timothy Roderick

**NOTE: make some special eggs with special symbols or pictures to represent what you want to come into your life to use for the spell below

You Need:

-your dye colors (see below)
-Hard boiled eggs
-A white crayon

Once you have several hard boiled eggs, use a white crayon to draw any symbols or pictures on your egg. This will intensify the vibrational color of the egg, drawing its influences into your life. After you have marked the egg with your symbol or picture, place it in the appropriate dye-color that corresponds with the symbol or picture.

Spring Equinox Egg Ceremony

taken from Wicca: A Year and a Day by Timothy Roderick

What you'll need:

 -your colored and symbol-marked eggs
-Two 5-6 inch candles, one black and one white

Set the eggs in a basket on a table that is on an east-facing wall of your house. Set the candles on either side of the egg basket, placing the white candle in a holder on the right and the black candle in a holder on the left. These two candles represent the balance between night and day. Light the candles and hold your hands over the eggs, imagining your wishes (related to the egg color) coming true. When the candles have burned almost completely out, extinguish them. Then bury the wax and at least one of the eggs in the ground near your home. Peel and eat the other eggs you've blessed so that you assimilate their magickal virtues.
