Covenant Band - Biography

Iré (EE-RAY), whose name means "the luck of mankind", is the powerful lead voice of Covenant.  Born in North Carolina, Iré began his singing career at 14, influenced by gospel, R&B, jazz, and blues.  In 1992, Iré co-founded the group Dub Mystic.  While opening for Culture with Dub Mystic, he was noticed by Joseph Hill and in 1993, was asked to join the legendary reggae band Culture. Iré sang backup with Culture until 1997; he recorded "One Stone" (ras cd #3188) with them in 1996.  Iré has opened for such artists as Sugar Minot, Gregory Isaacs, The Mighty Diamonds, the I-tals, Eek-A-Mouse, and sang backup for Max Romeo.  Iré sees Covenant as "armed with the light of truth and the fire to burn all confusion with the music for mankind."

Darin, keyboardist, vocalist, and composer for Covenant, is a veteran of the West Coast reggae scene.  He has played keyboards with Pure Water and the Cultivators at such venues as the Renegade Festival, Roots Mountain Reggae, and the Northwest Reggae Festival.

Cricket, one of the founders of the Covenant sound, adds vibrant color with his guitar and soulful background harmonies.  Cricket has been with the band since its inception and continues to add passion and insight to the music.

Alex, a Seattle native, has been playing bass for over 10 years.  He has toured all over the Northwest with the Planetary Refugees and in Hawaii with the heartial Kauaii roots band Lambsbread.
