| Reading |
We do whole group instruction
using the fifth grade program called Signatures by Harcourt-Brace. Most
reading work from this program will be done at school. We do however stress
reading at home. Students are expected to do three hours of chapter book
reading at home every month. They do this by reading an expected 15 minutes
every night until their three hours are completed. Any time over that earns
extra points for their team and extra chances to win a reading prize at
the end of the month. |

tool.

| Homework |
There will be a
maximum of one hour of homework nightly! If your student is taking longer,
try putting them "on the clock" or call us for suggestions. |
| Studying |
Fifth grade subjects
must be studied! The subject matter is too hard to learn by just listening
in class. Study habits must be formed by the end of fifth grade in order
to have successful, responsible students in later academic years. We will
send your student home with the tools they need to study for their tests.
Again, please, check their assignment planner. |
| Mandatory
Tests |
Terra Nova Test
given the week of May 8. |
| Grade Reporting |
Five week averages will be sent
home. Please sign and return the following day. These will be given right
back to you. We just need to know you saw them. And, we want to respond
immediately to your comments.
Report cards will be sent home every ten weeks.
Conferences will take place in November unless
you or we feel a conference is needed earlier. |
| Communications |
Please call us at 482-9971 anytime
you have a questions about homework problems, or procedures. An open line
of communication is very important to your student and we find it is best
to "get the facts" before jumping to conclusions. Life does not always
go smoothly so if you or your child is upset, please, call either of us. |
