Just a short story on the day we met.
When David and I met it was around the end of January. On that afternoon my ex-boyfriend of one year and I broke up. I was really upset about what had happened but I had to work at Red Lobster that evening. Kristen, was a girl I had become friends with at work and was dating David's friend and roommate Lucas.
She knew of my situation with my ex-boyfriend and kept insisting on meeting this really nice guy that I would get along with,and; So to cheer me up she invited them over to Red Lobster that night. She had asked me to meet them prior to this occasion but I always declined. At first when I met David and Lucas I did not think much of them. I did not want to hang out with them but just wanted to go home. But David who was not put off by my answer went and found me to ask me again to go hang out with them. He told me that he too had just broken up with someone so he knows how it feels, and that I should not go home but go out and have fun with him or her. He also added that he did not want to be a third wheel and that he would have a miserable time without someone to talk to. I reluctantly decided to go because of Kristen history of meeting dumb guys.
We decided to go bowling that night. So we met at David?s apartment where we met Lucas? brother Jared and his girlfriend Amanda. Lucas and Kristen drove together while David; Jared, Amanda and myself drove in David?s car. It made me a little nervous to be a car with people I just met and I especially with some guy Kristen wanted to set me up with. I felt I was going to be forced to talk to someone that I would have nothing in common with. Also these people were I would never hang out with on a regular occasion. Kristen led the way to the bowling ally claiming she knew where it was but as usual she got us lost. The whole time in the car I was very, very surprised that David was really easy to talk to. Even though we talked about all the typical get to know you stuff the conversation went smoothly and the awkward silences felt comfortable. When I first met David I did not think much of him because I just went along because I had nothing else to do. He was someone I would never date or become interested in. But as the night went on my impression changed. I was amazed that Kristen found someone who had a brain, looks and this is the real kicker a guy who seemed kind of nice. When we finally arrived at the bowling ally it was about an hour to closing time. Bowling with a bunch of people I did not know was a little awkward at first but I was impressed by how David made an effort to not ignore me but keep me in the conversation with the rest of the group.
At closing time David somehow convinced the owner of the bowling ally to let us look at the pin machines in the back. The owner even let us take some of the pins home with us. The night was going really good and since no one wanted to go home we decided to drop by our friend Aaron?s house. Eventually we ended up going back to Davids? House with Aaron to hang out. As the night got later and later the more interested I had become with David.
We seemed to have a lot of things in common and not once did I think about what had happen earlier that day. We ended up talking about everything and the night got so late I spent the night on his couch and in the morning I called in sick to work. My manager was so angry with me he hung up on me. Let?s just say that after that day I was calling in sick to work a lot. I left that morning a little nervous because 24 hours, I swore to myself that I would not date for awhile and now here was someone I had become very intrigued by. After that day as David likes to say, I wouldnt go home. |
