Anyone who has gone to her high school reunion reports back that the women look better than the men. It's those smart little beauty upgrades-investments, really-paying off, letting us improve with age. We asked seven celebrities what their recent upgrades were (because we know that even the most beautiful women don't roll out of bed ready for a close-up!). To get the conversation started, it seemed only fair to admit what I've done beautywise this year: toned down my blondness a few shades, had a series of beta peels in the doctor's office and whitened my teeth. Once these women got going they couldn't stop at just one answer. It's liberating to come out of the beauty closet. We applaud them for sharing. Don't you wish everybody would? --Charla Krupp
"I cut 10 inches off my hair five months ago. This is the first time I willingly cut it short," says Thorne-Smith, a.k.a.
attorney Georgia Thomas on Fox's Ally McBeal.
Thorne-Smith wanted to change her hairstyle after she left Melrose Place, but Ally executive producer David E. Kelley asked
her to keep it long. He knows a plot point when he sees one. Last season, after the firm tried a sexual discrimination case,
Thorne-Smith's character, opting for a smarter look, got a haircut. The effect is polished and professional. "It has long
layers in the front, and it's shorter in back. My problem now is that I want to cut it shorter and shorter."
