As season 1 carried on you found that the viewers weren't the only one's noticing something between Susan and Mark there co-workers also did especially Doug and Carol who were often taunting Susan and Mark over there "FRIENDSHIP"!. By the end of season 1 Mark was getting divorced and by the start of season 2 Susan and Mark were even closer, everybody in the hospital thought they were having a torrid affair. But season three is when things really took off Mark and Susan came so close many things happend were they came really close by this time the viewers were praying that they were going to get togetherm, they went on a double date but there dates got on better whith each other and Susan and Mark ended up leaving together. When Mark finally did ask her out she turned him down, which made Mark think she was going out with Morganstern but he was really helping her transfer to a hospital in Phoenix to be with Chloe and Susie. In what was a very sad episode called Union station (Sherry Stringfiled leaving) Susan left the ER and Doug eventually convinced Mark to tell Susan how he felt, but Susan was gone he ran to her apartment and she wasn't there , he ran to union station and Just as Susan was about to get on the train he caught up with her shouting her he tells her not to go that he loves her they share a brief kiss before Susan gets on the train and shouts i love you and leaves leaving Mark standing at the station alone.
Five years later Susan came back to the ER to see Mark who gave her old job back. Mark was now married and had another daugher but there friendship always was there and when Mark found out his brain tumour had returned Susan was the first one to know and she comforted him and then in a very very sad episode Mark died, Susan had lost her best friend and told Carter that she missed him and that she thought he would always be there Carter hugged her telling her "its good to miss him missing him is what keeps him here".
