Why did you join

‘Caught in the Act’?

I crave all things musical and dramatic. Plus I have really vivid dreams and lots of strange ideas in my head and need an acceptable public outlet for them!

Theatrical, musical, performance experience, if any (include any ‘behind the scenes’ involvement)

Was granted a tiny non-speaking role in a school play when I was about 8. Had a nervous breakdown the day before and wagged the day of the performance. I did some jazz and ballet classes a little later but always got put to the rear during performances because I was knock-kneed, pigeon-toed and red-faced. But I was the only one there with a decent sense of timing! Fell into the position of drummer/vocalist in a band in the mid 1990’s and discovered that my weird singing style was actually harmonising! I’m still in that band and perform almost every weekend. I had a largish role (playing Jane Waynes, the innocent colonial wife of a murderer) in the Casterton 150th celebrations drama “A Quiet Settlement”. Got heaps of behind the scenes experience as musical director and director’s assistant for the Casterton Secondary College’s last two productions. Was sound-technician on the first production and lights-tech on the second.

Is there any particular area within the theatre industry which holds a special interest to you?

Anything musical -singing especially, as well as the role of musical director. I get a thrill out of seeing my ideas come to life, so I’d love to have more of a go at script-writing. My acting ability is probably mediocre/acceptable at best, so I’m ready to extend myself in that area and give it renewed effort. I also built the www.castertoncommunitytheatre.com website, so that’s another area of interest.

What was your most positive moment or experience?

No space to list em all…..recently, being involved with the Casterton Secondary College’s production and watching unsure, nervous kids become confident, competent young adults and wowing the audience was an inspiration and made me believe in the power of human spirit and the true value of theatre.

What was your most embarrassing or interesting public moment so far ? (There’s bound to be more coming your way!)

No space to list em all…..probably the incident where the band and I were rehearsing at the Barham Services Club for a gig that night. I was using a remote microphone, which unknown to me was set to the same frequency as the entire club. I was singing harmonies (which sound just bizarre on their own) and after a couple of songs, I realised that my voice (and just my voice, no music or melody-line) was being transmitted very loudly throughout the whole complex!!

What are your best points/talents?

I’m a good organizer. Good with the written word and not a bad singer. I reckon I’m pretty tactful and have a kind heart.  I have great timing, a good ear for music and a twisted sense of humour.

What are your worse points/talents?

(You may need help filling this one in!)

Maybe I’m a little vain? He he hee. Can come across a bit whacky and immature, but I’m not really…Unsure of my acting ability. I don’t communicate verbally too well at times. I can’t read music and I have twisted sense of humour.

Favourite motto or saying?

I am unique, just like everyone else.
