Allocate bulletin roles Ð for May10th
From here on till Wednesday
May 5th (Monday is a Bank Holiday) you will have video cameras to go
and shoot stories. I would like each person to shoot one piece and you might do
this in teams of two or three, taking turns to produce, present and operate the
camera, so work out who to share with.
You are required to make
simple news item of up to 1m 30s. I am not expecting Watergate, but stories
should have a journalistic edge rather than just being a PR puff. Of course you
should exhibit proper journalistic values e.g. fairness, accuracy and
legal. You should try and use all
the basic techniques of TV, with interviews, general views, a piece to camera,
voice over etc.
You might want to consider
stories that you can re-use the following week to jump-start your regular
bulletin production on Monday 10th
You will have access to the
Annexe for editing from lunchtime on Wednesday but you will only have till
Thursday afternoon to edit your material. We are having a showing of your work
at 6pm on Thursday in the Kodak Lecture Theatre. This is the best opportunity we
have to look at your work and offer criticism.
As an update on the
operation of the Newsroom Annexe, I am delighted to tell you that Chris Horrie
has arranged for an ex-student, now at C4, to come in as Òguest editorÓ for a
day in Week Four of our six weeks and I hope that Rob Kirk from Sky News will
pay a return visit after Week One for an afternoon to offer his
advice.
