Earn Semester Units from the University of the Pacific, Center for Professional and Continuing Education. These courses are for Graduate Professional Development, NOT for pursuing an advanced degree at UOP. They may be applied towards the 150 professional growth requirement to renew your Clear Credential.

ON-SITE COURSES
* Important – You must reserve your spot in any course by phone or email prior to the first day of class
* All courses are held from 4:00pm – 8:30pm, unless otherwise stated
* If you need to miss one or two days of class, or be late due to staff meetings, make-up work may be arranged privately with the instructor.
* Total cost is $255 for three-semester-units credit. Tuition is non-refundable.
* Register and pay for on-site courses in person on the first or second day of class.
* All-on-site courses require ten hours of outside work, explained on the first day.
* Some on-site courses have an additional supply fee, not to exceed $35.

Self-Designed On-Site Courses

You bring what you want to work on!
You choose which dates you wish to attend!
You choose how many units you wish to earn!
You choose the location you wish to attend.

Choose any nine Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays, (4:15pm – 8:15pm) you wish to attend from January 25 through March 17. Attend 9 sessions and earn three semester units credit or attend 18 sessions and earn six semester units.
If you need to be late due to staff meetings or traveling long distance, make-up work can be arranged. Grading policy, make-ups, etc. will be discussed on person when you register.
These courses will also be offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays April 12 through June 2.

Liquid Watercolor Techniques II

A great sequel to course one, but no prerequisite is required. Teachers will make samples to teach “success-for-all” techniques using watercolors and other water-based materials. You will learn project ideas that will excite you to incorporate art across the curriculum. You will also create fabulous larger paintings involving texture, layers, and collage.

Creative Techniques for Teaching Reading

An exciting course! Teachers will learn original, effective, motivating techniques, plus games and songs to teach reading. Areas covered will be phonics, sight word memorization, comprehension, and assessment. Enjoy time in class to create reading materials for your own classroom. You will love this course!

Creative Techniques for Teaching Writing

A fabulous course! Teach your students to write super sentences, perfect paragraphs, and sensational stories! Learn creative techniques to make the teaching of writing fun and successful for all. Julie’s creative and effective techniques will help you generate more student interest in writing, and dazzle parents at Back To School nights. Teachers will learn a variety of motivating techniques, original activities, and fun games to teach writing with success. Topics covered will be word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, spelling, expository writing, and creative writing. Teachers will have an opportunity to create games and materials to enhance their writing program.

Field Trips To Enhance Curriculum I

Saturdays: February 19, March 5, March 19, May 7, May 21, 8:30am – 4:00pm
This will be one of the most practical, enjoyable, and stimulating courses you will ever take. Enjoy outstanding tailor-made tours for teachers, which may include: An incredible private tour of Alcatraz, (you will get to go where the general public can’t), the Oakland Museum, The Hornet, and the Phoebe Hearst Museum. Important: We will meet on Wed. 2/16 at IHMS at 5:00pm, in Room 100, to formally register, to receive your itinerary for the whole course, and to arrange carpools for those who wish to carpool. After this initial registration meeting, you will travel on your own or in carpools, and meet the group at each site for scheduled tours. If you cannot attend the registration meeting on Wed. 2/16, please call or email our office no later than Friday, 2/11, so we can get you registered by phone or email, and mail you the itinerary.

Teaching Physical Science With Toys and Imagination

A fabulous hands-on course that will get you excited about teaching science standards at all levels. Make samples of safe, inexpensive, creative projects that will demonstrate higher-level concepts taught at all levels – even young children! Launch water-balloons, make wind-up toys, motor games, rockets -- and even make ice cream and root beer floats! This course will present both labs and classroom demonstrations that are easily setup and stored using a minimum amount of space and resources. This course will get you excited and inspired to teach science.
