2004 is just a couple of days away and it look very much
like the competition to find a winner this year is going to produce a really
fierce battle. You better believe it. That statement is based on
fact, actually its facts, hard facts. Remember what I wrote this time last
year? Practice began in January, and some people had started to take a
more serious approach to our week in Mayo.
On this side of the pond some of the players have lost
shots to their handicaps. Take me for instance! Last year I played
off 17 and looking good going into the last day. I got a rude shock didn't
I? Is the same thing going to happen this year? It would if I let
the grass grow under my feet. Well I can inform you all I am not alone.
Three members it would appear are peaking very nicely thank you! Chris yea
yea Moran finished 2nd in this companies annual outing in Howth Golf Club.
He started poorly scoring 38 points. Your head hauncho Dermot Burke has
just won the intermediate scratch cup in the notorious Stackstown, one leg
longer than the other, plus coronary hill for good measure with a great score,
on a very hot day, wind and lots of sun. For my part in the build up I
shot my best ever gross 72 off 15 to win our monthly medal for June. Are
you serious about mounting a challenge then you better have all your home work
done. Don't say you weren't warned.
P.S. I have it on good authority that the
Finally we have to remember from whence we came. Only a few short years
ago only a few of us had GU Handicaps. Now the reality is that most of us
have one and a few have being cut not once but several times. That is a
sure sign of healthy growth. The bug has bit and we all are all the better
for it. A better understanding of the game and one another, leading to
better friendships.
I hope you all enjoy the week. See you all in Claremorris on Saturday
the 19th, win or lose.
For now,
Post winner,
Pat.
