Chinese School summer Camp
The Chinese School summer camp started on June 12th and lasted until July 14th. Everyday it went from 8:30am to 6:00 pm. Within these five weeks, there were three teachers who taught us: Language, Math, Crafts, Dance (for the girls), Tai Chi (for the boys), Music, and Swimming. The
teachers from China were: Ms. Zhang, and Ms. Xie. They came all the way from Beijing to our Cleveland.
There were about 15-18 students. We were divided into two groups, an older group and a younger group, our learning criteria was different.
Math-This class was taught by a Chinese School parent: Mrs. Zhang. She taught us how to solve math in a Chinese way.
Language-This class was taught by Ms. Zhang from Beijing. She taught us vocabulary and a variety of poems. She also practiced with us on our writing and taught us some songs.
Dance-This class was also taught by Ms. Zhang from Beijing. She taught us the dances: “Jasmine Flower? and “The Ripe Grapes? which is a dance from XinJiang.
History- We were taught stories and fables from the olden times. such and example would be a Mongolian Story.
I know that the Summer Camp costs quite a bit and most children visit China
directly over the summer. However, the experiences I've shared with American-Chinese children was most memorable.

I am an American learning Chinese. I studied Chinese at Kent State University for three years. I have also studied Chinese philosophy. I am twenty-two years old. I have been a vegan for four years. I started studying Buddhism books when I was eighteen. Buddha once said all living things have their own destiny. From helping other living creatures we can all discover the woven existence of nature. I don’t wish for any animals to suffer harm because of me. I want to learn from them and live with them. Therefore I don’t want to eat them.
I have read Lao Zi’s Dao De Jing and Confucius’ Analects. I am also interested in I-Ching. Next February I plan on going to China to teach the Chinese how to speak English. When I am in China, I plan on practicing Tai Chi every day to become one with mother nature.

Whenever conversation approaches summer camp, I don’t know where to begin. There were so many things that happened, I made so many friends, and learned so much. However the most memorable for me were the two teachers from Beijing. One was a high school teacher, Zhang Xue Wei, the other was a middle school teacher, Xie San San.Miss Zhang taught us Chinese, songs and dance. Because Miss Zhang taught Language at the Six-One School in Beijing, Dance was only a hobby of hers. She did teach it quite well, and is very talented.
Ms. Xie is a History teacher at the Six-One School in Beijing. She taught us about culture and a variety of stories and fables that have been passed down through time. We also learned how to tie Chinese celebration knots. She is a very smart individual.
I really like these two teachers because when I was with them, they didn’t feel like teachers, they were just like our friends. When we were together, we talked and laughed. After school when they came home with me (they stayed with me), we made dinner together, ate together, and joked together. With Ms.
Xie, we tied Chinese celebration knots, and colored kites. With Miss Zhang I practiced dance and song. One nice days, we would go out into my yard and stare and the sky and talk.
I am very happy I went to the summer camp and learned so much. The five weeks with the wonderful teaches are my best memories.
