My Gold Award

For my Gold Award, I held 2 separate classes meeting one day a week for several weeks. I taught girl scouts about clowns - the different types, how to dress as one, how to apply clown make-up, and preform clown skits. I also taught them how to create things out of balloons. Once everyone had mastered the fun skills of clowning, I took them to a nursing home that I had previously enjoyed volunteering at. I joined my classes together and had them put on their make-up, homemade clown suits, and preform their clown skills for the very appreciative residents.
I sent the girls off in small teams of 3-4 and everyone made their ways to each resident's room and made personal hats or animals for everyone. We then rejoined in the lobby area to preform skits and then entered the dining room to continue with balloons. All of my girls had a very good time at the nursing home and I felt that the residents enjoyed the girls visit. I thought that by taking them to a nursing home, they might also somehow realize the importance of volunteering, because the people left at homes are not always lucky enough to receive visitors and can be very lonely. They all love any attention you might afford them.
