James Park & Marion Allen



James was born Feb 9 1766 in Kent Glasgow Lanark Scotland,
the son of William PARK & Martha McCONNELL
who had been married abt 1765.

Marion ALLEN was born Aug 6 1768 in Cambuslang Lanark Scotland,
the eldest child of Hugh ALLEN & Mary PARK
who had been married on Jul 3 1768 in Cambuslang.

James and Marion
were married on August 8 1788
in Cambuslang Lanark.

James & Marion had 13 children, all born in Cambuslang Lanark:
1) James born Jun 8 1798,
married Euphemia SUTHERLAND (10 children)
(Euphemia was the daughter of William SUTHERLAND & Catherine McPHERSON)

2) Hugh born Sep 29 1790,
married Janet HAY on Aug 22 1812 in Cambuslang (12 children)
(Janet was the daughter of Robert HAY & Lillias ARTHUR)

3) Mary born Oct 15 1792,
married William ARBUCKLE

Jean Pollock PARK died Nov 23 1847 in Rosebank Place Cambuslang

Andrew married 2nd to Margaret GOULD on May 3 1849 (4 children)

(Agnes was the daughter of John DUNCAN & Agnes THOMPSON)

7) Martha chr Dec 31 1799.
married William HOOD in 1821 in Dalhousie Township (4 children)
(William was the son of James HOOD & Elizabeth JONES)

8) John born May 11 1802,
married Louisa SMITH on Mar 24 1840 in Plympton Township (12 children)
(Louisa was the daughter of William SMITH & Mary Ann STAPLES)

9) Helen chr Feb 12 1804,
married Andrew PARK abt 1824
(Andrew was the son of James PARK & Jean MAXWELL of Rutherglen Scotland)

10) William born Oct 26 1805,
married 1st to Jane DUNCAN (11 children)
(Jane was also the daughter of John DUNCAN & Agnes THOMPSON)

He married 2nd to Janet McDonald FINDLAY (5 children)
(Janet was the daughter of John FINDLAY & Janet McDONALD)

He married 3rd to Mary GORDON (8 children)
(Mary was the daughter of Joseph GORDON & Jean STEWART)

11) Margaret born Jul 10 1807,
married James William Wood BROWN

12) David chr Jun 12 1809,
married Anne BROOKS (12 children)
(Ann was the daughter of James BROOKS & Barbara NEWBIGGING)

13) Jean born Feb 10 1814,
married David WILLIAMSON on May 5 1829 in Cambuslang
Jean died on Feb 22 1887 in Cambuslang Lanark.



They emigrated to Upper Canada as part of the Lanark Society Settlers.


The following notice appeared in The Times (London),
Friday April 20, 1821 / No. 11, 225 page 3

"Friday morning, the fine ship George Canning, Captain Porter,
sailed from Greenock for Quebec, with 489 passengers,
chiefly from Glasgow and its neighborhood,
consisting of
weavers, cotton-spinners, joiners, farmers, and labourers,
from the various emigrant associations
which the distress of the times has lately called into operation."


James and Marion, along with their sons Hugh, Joseph, John, William, and David,
(also their grandson James Pollock PARK, son of Andrew)
sailed from Greenock Scotland on Apr 14 1821, aboard the 'George Canning'.
They arrived at Quebec on Jun 2 1821.

The new settlers were each given 100 acres by the Canadian government,



James died abt 1856 in Poland Dalhousie Township Lanark Ontario.
Marion died in McDonald's Corner Dalhousie Township Lanark Ontario.

James PARK & Marion ALLEN are Ed's 5X GR grandparents !!
