APPLE DESSERT
(a recipe from my late mother - Marie Slaten)

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix until fluffy
Sift the following and add to egg and sugar mixture
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Fold in 2 cups chopped raw apples and 1/2 cup nuts. Bake 35 or 40 minutes in 350 degree oven in a pan 8x8x2. Serve with whipping cream.
