September 20, 1997Six Flags-St. Louis
My friend Jamie and I headed to the Old Glory Amphitheatre around 5. We waited until 6pm, when the show started. OUt cam Collin, waering a black long-sleeved shirt, black jeans, borwn belt, and brown boots. The place was packed. There were even people on the grass behind the seats. He started out with "On the Verge", and then "My Kind of Girl" and "Little Rock". He had to compete with the train, which ran behind the stage, and had to blow its' whistle each time it went by. And he also had to compete with the Screamin' Eagle, which is behind the seats. He was cool about it though. The first time the train went by, he was talking, and he stopped, looked at the train, and yelled "Quiet buster!" Another time, he stoppd and said "Everyone wave at the train!", so, we all waved at the train with Collin, of course! =) He said the train didn't really bother him. He talked aobut the weather, since it was a pretty nastly day out. (We lucked out, it only rained lightly for about a half hour late in the afternoon, and it started clearing up during the show!) He asked everyone if we'd had a good day at Six Flags. The response wasn't very enthusiastic. He said "I know, you came to Six Flags just to see me, didn't you?" The crowd went wild. Then he said "Yea, right!" The crowd went wild again. (We DID go just to see him!) He introduced the band, joked with them, made some jokes about then and playing softball. He waved at the crowd everytime people waved at him, which I thought was cool. A few times people yelled stuff at him. It was so funny when this guy near us yelled, at the top of his lungs, "I love you Collin!" He did everything on his Direct Hits except "The Gift" and "Open Arms". He sang (in no order) "That's My Story", which he talked about afterwards. He said it's so easy to sing along with because we've all been there before, and even if you've never heard it before you pick up on it right away. He got a great response from that. He did "One Boy, One Girl", "In This Life", My Kind of Girl", "That Was a River", "Little Red Rodeo", and "What the Heart Wants". He got standing ovations for three songs: "Love, Me", "What if Jesus Comes Back Like That", and "Not that Different". He did "Heart Full of Rain", which was not a single. He said it is one of his favorite songs he has recorded. He also did "Dreamin' My Dreams with You". Someone handed him a small stuffed animal. He was so cute. I think it was a little girl. He said "I bet you won that herre today, didn't you?" and said thank you. Also, I think it was during the encore, someone handed him a Red and White Dr. Suess hat. He actually wore it! Only for a minute though. Fot the encore, he did "And I Love You So", "The Boys Are Back in Town", and "Love Remains". "And I Love You So" is a Don McLean song. I think he said it will be on his next album. I found out later that he had a pinched nerve, and had been on bedrest for a few days. He had to cancel one or two concert dates the weekend before because of it. I had no clue. He was climbing the stairs by the drums, playing the drums, and jumping around. The concert was over way too fast. We then had an hour wait to get out of the parking lot, but ut was well worth it. I can't wait till he comes around here again.
Back to Collin. Back to my Country Page. Back Home.
