9:00 pm show
Sara and I left at 7am, and got to the Sullivan,
Mo at 8am, but got a little lost (I missed the Outer Road), so we got to
the fair about 8:15. There were already a lot of lawn chairs there. But,
we found an open spot on the 5th "row" of chairs, that was big enough for
2 chairs. There was already a bus there, which we later found out was for
the crew. About 9am, they started the children's pageant. The kids were so
cute! Then after that, I fell asleep in my chair, and had a nice half hour
or so nap. There were only about 10 or 12 of us that were actually waiting
in our seats all day. The weather was nuts. It would be hot add sunny, then
rain, then be cool, then hot again. We watched the crew set up the stage
in the afternoon. The black clouds had been moving east, away from us. But
about 4:40 or so, they came back. It stormed for about an hour and a half.
We had taken cover under a tent before it poured. The poor crew.... they
had to get everything covered up, and fast. We waited it out, and Sara went
back to the seats while it was still raining lightly. I waited till it stopped.
While it was still raining, the sun came out, which resulted in a rainbow.
It was beautiful! I discovered after I went to or seats (having trekked through
the goopy ground), that it was a full rainbow.
The storm and the rainbow
We got some dinner after the ground dried up a bit. The sky started clearing
up, and it go a little warm again. It was just beautiful out. We watched
the sound check. Got a few pics of Derek and Tom. Oh yea, while the crew
was setting up the speakers, and during sound check, they played some CD's.
They started with Steve Wariner, and "Drive". They were driving me nuts,
cause they kept stopping it, and starting it over. So, I heard the first
few lines about 10 times! Then they played some Sting. Later during/after
sound check, they finally played it through, several times, and "If I Didn't
Love You" (my fave), and a few others.
Derek and Tom
The show started at 9pm. Here ya go:
He did: Sittin on Go, Right Place, Rebecca Lynn, The Natural Thing (he was
so energetic, he took a little rest on the speakers!), Not Supposed To Love
You Anymore, Look at Me Now (he said it was the first charting single).
Bryan
Brinson
and Derek
Bryan taking a rest on the speakers after "The Natural
Thing"
Acoustic Set: That's Another Song ? (Randle on Steel), Eugene You Genius
(part of it), part of Holes in the Floor of Heaven, Everything I Do (I Do
It For You), and From This Moment (with us helping out). Then You're Still
Beautiful To Me (he made sure he told us about the new CD on Aug. 24... even
had us repeat it to make sure we got it!), Someone Else's Star. Encore: Bryan
came out on the drums, and they did Prince's Party Like It's 1999, then Imagine
That, and So Much For Pretending.
Bryan, Lee, Scott, Brinson
He did something else too......He had a few of the other guys sing a few
lines of one of them...was it "Party"? Hmmm.... I think so.So, we got to
hear Derek sing! =)
The show was and hour and a half long.
He talked about Steve, and Shania, and called her Shanaynay. He talked about
dreams can come true, and not to go into the music business. He said they
ate a the White House restaurant, and gave it a nice plug, stayed at the
Ramada, and had a great game of golf (all the guys went nuts at that- must
have all had good games).
During "Party", the had everyone rush the stage. At the end, I was 3rd from
the stage. But people were a little too pushy, esp. Over guitar pics! So,
we got shoved around a little.
I went to the M&G, and people from the Fair Board went first. It was
very fast, and impersonal, I thought. Nothing like Taylorville. They had
us lined up by the bus. He was standing on the steps of the bus, and they
even told us no hugs or kisses. He signed the pic of me, and my two friends
with him, from Taylorville. He said something, so I could tell he recognized
where it was from, and I started to ask him something before he could say
it, and I asked him why, on Crook and Chase during Fan Fair, he was trying
to hit Heath Wright of Ricochet on the head with his water bottle cap, and
he said "Just to bug him". We took a picture, and he said thanks for coming
sweetheart, or something like that. All I remember is the sweetheart part.
The guys were all back there, and Derek practicing his golf swing.
I found Sara, we gathered our stuff, and drove home. This was not fun! It
was VERY foggy out. Some spots were fine, others you could only see 200 feet
in front of you. But, we made it safely, and then Sara went home.
