Real Love - What Would Jesus Do (WWJD) in Crisis Pregnancy

One day Jesus came across a young mother who was crying.  She had a baby out of wedlock and everyone was jeering and refusing to help her. She was concerned about was her baby's well-being, so she asked Jesus for help.

"I've heard there are people who financially stable and they would take my baby and bring him up well.  Even if it killed me to do this, at least I would not have to worry about whether he might starve." she told Jesus.  "Please take him to these people.  Otherwise, I'm afraid we might both die of hunger."

But
even when the mother pleaded with Jesus to take her baby, he refused. "You have no idea the serious consequences that would have," he told her.  "I could never do that to you or your baby."

Instead of just taking her baby, he shared what he had with her and comforted her.  He talked to friends about helping the mother find work, school loans, child care and whatever she needed to get on her feet financially.

One day, Jesus saw the child's father in the market place.  The man had just opened up a coffee shop and it was doing well.  He told Jesus how he had abandoned his girlfriend and their baby and how much he missed them.  Jesus listened and then he said "Your daughter misses you and cries herself to sleep at night sometimes.  I think your girlfriend would be relieved if you showed up and at least talked to them."  So the man went and talked to his girlfriend.  He knew he'd been wrong to leave, he told her.  At the time, he had been fired from his job and was so embarrassed that he could not support them.  He was sorry.

The man started taking his little daughter to the coffee shop during the day while her mother was in school and got to know her very well.  He delighted seeing how much she was like him and her mother.  He often thought to himself what a horrible shame it would have been to have missed out on her life.

Whenever the mother heard the words "Loving Option" applied to the people who just took babies away from their mothers,  she thought about Jesus and his love - the truly loving option.

Note to readers:    Jesus himself was concieved and born to an "unwed" teenage mother - and Mary agreed to this pregnancy.  Joseph stood by Mary. But even if Joseph had not stood by her, Mary would still be the mother of her child, not a "birthmother" (aka "birth thing") meant to be used as the source of a baby for adoption.
