No such thing as "mental illness" was ever heard of among the Chinese people through the several millenia of the recorded existance as a nation.

This can be gleaned from several reports, as a mention in passing here or there. Pray consider that a something which was not present would naturally be not mentioned.

Some observers began noticing this species of "backward"-ness there : there were no psychiatrists in China, probably still none well into the 20th century.

Had the Western psychiatrists meant sanity, the relative absence of "insanity" among the Chinese people could be an interesting area of research.

Some psychiatrists sometimes did mean sanity. What has become of the profession more recently does not admit of easy answers.

Had the 20th-century psychiatrists (e.g. in the USA) been not influenced by some questionable trends (e.g. 'physicalism' applied to the mental phenomena) ; had they (the US) been not infiltrated by agents of another power (then hostile) — examine the George Brock Chisholm-Alger Hiss-Carl Binger-etc. syndrome ; or some reported US connections with a certain Dr. Snezhnevsky in the former USSR — there may have been some more sanity present in the profession, hence some more sanity abroad.

It has happened. The entire profession has been de-toured. It needs no "specialist" to examine the theory, the premises of any science (or art, etc.). Any scientist anywhere in the world is being hereby implored to take a good look onto these issues.

Who Had Invented the "intellectually disabled" ? (in present-day China, as the press reports) :

There had been no such thing in China for a number of thousands of years.

There has been reported somebody's goal, to increase the number of a "category" which was never heard of in China for a number of thousands of years.

There may have been, as in any society, some people who were less smart than some others. Why is somebody organising olympics on some such a criterion ?

Whence this phenomenon ?

Any sorts of "diagnosis" like this one can be used for manipulating people, against their will (even if only by way their having been fooled).

Any Scientist Anywhere In the World : do not overlook these sorts of "progress".

It seems probable that the plague had arrived in China no earlier than with the takeover by Mao etc.

[A] tussle happened just a few minutes after Schwarzenegger marveled at the fact Special Olympics in China has reached the goal laid out by game officials the last time Schwarzenegger visited this country in 2000 — to increase the number of "intellectually disabled" Chinese athletes who participate in the competition from 50,000 to 500,000.

The games were founded in 1968 by Schwarzenegger's mother-in-law, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. In Communist China, where Schwarzenegger has said many times the intellectually disabled were often treated with extreme cruelty, the growth of the games has been fueled by Deng Pufang, the son of former Chinese communist leader Deng Xiaoping.

Pufang, who was with Schwarzenegger on the stage and received yet another humanitarian award for his work on behalf of China's disabled community, has used a wheelchair since he broke his back in a fall from a window.
