UK Government figures for 2002 show an INCREASE over figures for 2001:

     physical injury - UP 81% to 11,769

     psychological - UP 5% to 39,642

     toxicity tests - UP 7% to 485,767 inc:
     testing of food additives - UP 56% to 5,414
     testing of household products - UP 75% to 1,032
     testing of industrial substances - UP 20% to 42,280
     testing of agricultural chemicals - UP 41% to 57,804

     carcinogenicity tests - UP 10% to 19,109
    
   numbers of "procedures" on
     mice - UP 4% to 1,720,253
     rats - UP 2% to 509,647
     sheep - UP 79% to 33,610
     pigs - UP 44% to 8,453
     fish - UP 6% to 181,953
