Well, I'm sure this comes unexpected and you must be as surprised as I was when things fucked up at Geocities! I took their hosting package of Geocities Pro because I'm preparing a brand new website which I will unveil on Tuesday February 5th 2002. I won't disclose what it is, but it's not related to CS at all. I will eventually have partners and the site will generate money for me. I'm building a small team of five people to help me keep the site up to date and interactive. I will be the Webmaster and it will be quite a big site. Intrigued yet? Well, it's a secret for now. I'll unveil the URL right here on Feb. 4, just before the opening. The site will be made with Dreamweaver 4. No more Pagebuilder, time to put my web design lessons to work.
What happened is that I registered under my old Geocities ID to get my new domain. It gives me lots more space and 10 Gigs of bandwith which will be much needed. Little did I know that the admins at Geocities shared my space and bandwith with my Geocities CS site. I decided to change my ID and at the same time it wiped out Daark Angel's Counter-Strike without notice! Can you say ooops!! My jaw dropped for 5 seconds then I thought, oh well, I was gonna announce my departure of the CS community this Saturday so it's not too bad...
Which brings me to my next point, my departure. In the past two months, ever since I finished my CS Blizzard Project which was very successful, (the pack is now mirrored on at least a dozen sites that I know of!) I've been losing interest in CS, the PODBot Forums and gaming in general. I didn't want things to end this way, I wanted to keep my site open, I was proud of it. I apologize to all the wpters whose wpts got lost in this incident. It's a good thing I had sort of a back-up with this site. I don't know if you remember but I signed up for this one about four months ago strictly to have the WptPacks page because downloads were making me exceed my bandwith limit all the time. Well, now it's my new site. The sad thing is that I don't have a backup of anyone's wpts from my old site, aside from the wpts I have in my POD Wpt folder of course. The only remaining ones are my own wpts, all 20 of them. So this site will be for my wpts and the wptpacks, they were on this server and I backed them up, so they're safe and sound :) I'm sorry but I won't upload anybody's wpts anymore. I don't have the time and besides, by now, pretty much every Tom, Dick and Harry has a website! I'm happy I helped out all the wpters who needed hosting.
I'd like to thank everybody who visited or bookmarked my site and paid it regular visits. Just before it got wiped out, Daark Angel's Counter-Strike was at 9800+ visitors and it totalled over 33000 page views since its opening on July 16 2001. I remember when I first started it, I was one of the very first sites to host other people's wpts, I wasn't even wpting back then! People were mailing me their wpts by the dozen. The site grew and I became well known in the PODBot forums at Nuclearbox. You wnet in Google and typed "counterstrike wpts" and my site was the first one that would come up and it still is! It was fun. I had a great time, I hope you did too. Counter-Strike is still the best game ever, well almost ;) I'm not leaving for good, I'll pop back when CS 1.4 comes out this Spring to get the patch and some wpts for the new maps. I'll even play a game online with some of you every now and then like we used to do. But I won't post and go every week on the forums or update this site anymore.I'm taking a well deserved break from CS. I hope I was able to bring something to this community, I truly feel I did. This game and community brought me so much, it's the least I could do, so if you came to my site, DLded my wpts, played the Blizzard Pack , then my job is done, I contributed as best as I could.
On a final note, the Maps page will soon be ready, I want you guys to be able to view screenshots and get DL links for the maps I wpted. I'll work on it this week-end, promise! The Wpts section is now simply comprised of my 20 wpts and of PODBot 2.5 and Spikeles' Waycheck. I find those two files are necessary.
