Sue's graduation This is Sue receiving her degree from Waterloo University.  The Chancelor is saying, "Go out and make a difference!" She looks surprised, but she shouldn't.  Making a difference in the lives of those around her is her purpose.

Biographical Information                            

Sue Johnston has a B.A. from Waterloo University, with emphasis in Social Work, Psychology, and Developmental Studies. She has two Social Work Certificates from the University of Waterloo; one in general social work, and the second specializing in child abuse issues. She was working on her Master of Arts in Counseling and had almost completed when the college contacted her. On the basis of academic standing she was offered the opportunity to roll her Master credits into a Ph.D program. She accepted that offer and is not working on her Ph. D in Counseling.

Sue has a varied background in experience. She has worked in teen homes in Toronto running programs designed to help youth get off the streets and off drugs. She has counseled with mothers and children who have known abuse, conducting both group and individual counseling. For a number of years she worked with children who were developmentally delayed, and then ran a tutoring program teaching children with ADHD. She has worked full time with churches in counseling, running camp programs, vacation schools, and conducting retreats. Three years ago she began a private practice specializing in abuse counsel, family issues, and crisis counseling. She conducts counseling sessions in group work, offers email counseling, and individual counseling.

Aside from her love of counseling, she writes. She has published various articles in trade magazines and small newspaper publications. Prior to her counseling studies and training she worked with the Toronto Star (Canada's largest newspaper) as assistant to the Financial News Editor. One of Sue’s emails garnered an invitation to Oprah’s Book Club where she met and dined with Oprah. “An experience never to be forgotten,” she says.

Currently, she has written a kid's picture book  The Pink Curly Haired Gorilla, a book designed for kids with ADHD. She has completed two novels After the Lure (a story about emotional abuse and mental illness), and Signatures of the Soul (a psychological mystery). She also writes a motivational column titled Monday Moments which she sends out through email.
